Orson Welles wanted an authentic New Orleans band for his broadcasts in 1944-45.

He asked Marili Morden of the Jazz Man Record Shop for help.

Episodes of the 1944 Orson Welles' Mercury Radio Almanac shows that featured Kid Ory as a member of the “All Star New Orleans Band” or “Mercury All Stars.”

The sponsors were Mobil Gas and Oil, and the half hour programmes were broadcast on Wednesday nights at 9.30
