There were two shows that day, an 6.00 pm show and an 9.00 pm show.

The concerts were telerecorded by ORTF and aired in a cross-mixture of the afternoon and evening tunes on TV late 1959/60.

Parts of the concerts were also issued in a cross-mixture of afternoon and evening tunes on on JAZZ AVERTY-E-video (E).

Five clips (E')  from this were aired on NBC-TV(Europe)-SuperChannels before the video-release.

The afternoon concert was broadcasted on FFB-Berlin 10 October 1959.

The afternoon concert was also shown to the French and US Army in Berlin Quartier Latin.

NOTE: Below we show the tunes that we could find. The number of tunes is by no means complete.

The order of the found tunes from the concerts  is just an estimation.

We look forward to a true list of the tunes based on evidences.  The order can possibly be estimation based on various evidences such as a mixture of slow and fast tunes, microphone positions and on the fact that a bag is seen to the right of the stage on some of the tunes.

In many cases the original files have incomplete or abrupt starts and endings.

We have chosen to add suitable movie parts and fading ends to make the listening and viewing as pleasant as possible.

We thank Franz Hoffmann for the invaluable cooperation during editing and discussions and in finding sound- and movie files,

The E - movies have previously been published on YouTube.

In one case we have found a sound file and have chosen to present it by a suitable audio illustration.

On the fourth of October 1959 the French jazz critic Simon Copans had the difficult task of interviewing Kid Ory in both French and English, at the same time! Here is a transcription of the English section of that interview.

KO = Kid Ory SC= Simon Copans.

SC Kid Ory, the first question I would like to ask you is when did you hear first the great trumpet of         New Orleans music, Buddy Bolden?

KO I suppose about when I was eight years old.

SC You were a very little fellow then?

KO That's right.

SC I understand that you organised your own band when you were just a young boy.

KO That's right, I organised my own band when I was eight years old.

SC Was that a string band?

KO The first thing we had was a string band, and later on we had a line-up using what we're using now.

SC I believe you organised your own orchestra afterwards in New Orleans?

KO No, my orchestra was organised in La Place.

SC And then you organised a second band in New Orleans a little later, is that correct?

KO No.

SC When did you organise your first band in New Orleans?

KO I played my first engagement when I was ten years old in La Place.

SC And when did you have some of the well known musicians such as Mutt Carey in your band? That was a little later?

KO Mutt Carey? That was in 1916.

SC I believe that in your band from 1915 to 1919 you had some of the greatest New Orleans musicians, is that true? Who were some of them?

KO King Oliver, Johnny Dodds.

SC Sidney Bechet?

KO Chippy.

SC Sidney Bechet

KO Yes Chippy.

SC Louis Armstrong came after King Oliver. I believe you were one of the first musicians to leave New Orleans itself. You went to California, what year  was that?

KO 1919

SC And you stayed there for five or six years, is that correct?

KO Twenty five years.

SC You recorded in Los Angeles or San Francisco in 1921, Two of the first jazz records ever recorded, even before King Oliver, is that correct?

KO Oh yeah, that's right Los Angeles.

SC Where did you go after Los Angeles?

KO Chicago.

SC I believe you found in Chicago many of the musicians that you knew in New Orleans, is that correct?

KO That's right.

SC Who were some of them? Who did you start playing with first?

KO I recorded with Louis Armstrong first and then Oliver and the Hot Five.

SC Jimmie Noone or Jelly Roll Morton?

KO I recorded with Jelly Roll Morton, Jimmie Noone, Louis Armstrong, Tiny Parham and Joe Oliver.
