Roy J. Carew was perhaps the first white man to appreciate the importance of New Orleans jazz — having been aware of the music since the turn of the century, and having been a friend of many New Orleans greats, most notably Jelly Roll Morton and Tony Jackson.
His celebrated series of warm, intimate “New Orleans Recollections” was The Record Changer’s first notable editorial achievements. See:
