LIONEL REASON
New Orleans pianist LIONEL REASON, who was appearing at the Club Hangover in San Francisco, with Kid Ory (Jan., 1955). Lionel had toured with King Oliver and told many interesting stories. Unfortunately, I took no notes and far too many Pabst Blue Ribbons, but we had a good dinner and he played some fine piano.
Prior to joing Ory in California, Lionel had a regular gig in Buras, La, a remote community which is a two hour drive from New Orleans. He must have thought he was in heaven when he left that behind to play in San Francisco.
