Kid Ory´s early life at the Woodland plantation has been thoroughly described by John McCusker. The exact location of the plantation itself was virtually unknown to me and probably to the rest of the jazz community. It was a memorable moment when I was able to see the plantation on the Google Maps by means of the Google street view.

1910s THE WOODLAND PLANTATION

Kid Ory did not live in the main building of the Woodland plantation but in a house like this one (see the photo to the left) near the Sugar Mill on Cardinal Street (see the map below). The Mill was destroyed by fire in 1906 and the Woodland subdivided in the 1920th.
